‘Thor’ Trailer: Once Again, Science Meets Magic!

Back in my day, we had a show called Mr. Wizard. Now, even being a child, I understood Mr. Wizard was not a real Wizard, but did very cool science experiments with magnets and air pressure. I don’t think anyone, outside of 18th century alchemists, really believes that using the rationale of science would unlock the fantasy world of “magic.” As Martin Starr would say in Party Down (RIP), “I’m only into hard sci-fi. Fantasy is bullshit.”

Yet here we are with the Thor trailer, which seems remarkably like The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in that we’re supposed to believe that “What you call science, we Gods called magic, or maybe they are different sides of the same coin, here is some half-baked unnescary explanation about combing logic with something that doesn’t exist.”

I still don’t buy the conceit, which is ridiculous because this is a comic book movie, not reproduced findings of a study, but it still makes me mad. Though the equation does work out: Chris Hemsworth (x) > Jay Baruchel (where X = being really cut and having absolutely zero acting skills). Is math magical too??
